John Holmes had it all. But along with his gigantic dick came a gigantic coke problem that precipitated a quadruple homicide—and, even worse, more work for Val Kilmer! Wonderland takes a back-alley tour through the history that inspired Boogie Nights, but the movie seems like soft-core Cinemax compared with the real-life footage found in the extras. Erase any doubt about the overuse of words like “gruesome” and “horrific” in connection with this story by walking through the blood-soaked Wonderland apartment—the 25-minute LAPD crime scene video comes complete with freshly murdered victims and used smack paraphernalia. If that’s too much to handle (sissy), the “Court TV” feature is a brief summary of the story—including the actors’ thoughts on their respective characters’ involvement and insightful bits from Holmes’ ex-girlfriend. But the money shot here (only included for a limited time, lazy ass) is “Wadd,” the two-hour life and times of Holmes straight from his manager, director, friends, and costars. And that’s a mouthful.
