Tool
In the early '90s, Tool put the "rock" back in prog-rock, reclaiming the genre from the dungeon master dorks and Rush fans whod made it a laughingstock. On their first album in five years, their power sounds undiminished: Guitars creep and then crash, drums skitter then boom, and frontman Maynard James Keenan sounds equally engaged (and enraged) whether hes whispering or unleashing a theatrical holler. They remain the rare band whose ten-minute songs have ten minutes worth hearing.
