With classics like “My Adidas” and “Rock Box,” Run-DMC were bona fide rap heroes way back in the early ’80s. And the guest-heavy Crown Royal proves they can still kick it. Royal updates the razor-sharp wordplay of their early days with more ambitious, aggressive sounds injected by timely collaborators Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst. Their ill-advised turn with modern-rock lightweight Sugar Ray falls flat, but elsewhere swift rhymes cut deep and booming beats hit hard as the Kings of Rock shake the dust off their Kangol crowns.
