Dude, we get it. You write lots of songs. No need to show us all of them. Sure, with its mostly somber tone and scaled-down atmospheric arrangements, 29, is usually engagingmuch better than the Grateful Deadtinged double album, Cold Roses, that Adams released back in May, though not quite on par with the liquor-soaked Jacksonville City Nights, which came out in September. But when the alt-roots ragamuffin releases this much material in such a short time, fans have no time to live with his songs, and plenty of otherwise memorable tunes get lost in the shuffle.
