Primal Scream began their career as a fairly unremarkable bunch who longed tobe this generations Rolling Stones. The thing was, the Black Crowes already had that job, so Primal Scream had to apply for work elsewhere. Thank God. They soondiscovered the British dance scene and dove in headfirst, slowly reinventing themselvesas a spacey, psychedelic, rocktronica hybrid that was far more interesting than theiroriginal incarnation anyway. Now, after their overambitious and overrated last outing, Vanishing Point, they finally realize their potential with XTRMNTR. Bringing an angry punk attitude to big Chemical beats, hypnotic electro-grooves, and towering squalls of guitar noise, tracks like Kill All Hippies, Blood Money, and Swastika Eyes, give anti-establishment angst a newer, louder voice. In the process they takethe do-nothing, peace/love vibe of the rave scene and rip it to shredswhich, come tothink of it, is pretty similar to what the Stones did 30 years ago.
