Songs from an American Movie, Volume Two: Good Time for a Bad Attitude

Cannonball Run II taught us the hard way that sequels are almost always disappointing. Coming just four months after the first installment, Volume Two rocks a bit harder, but the quick turnaround shows some flaws. With frontman Art Alexakis recycling the same hard-luck story lines and the band filling them out with numbingly midtempo arrangements, few tracks stand out. We’ve heard of striking while the iron is hot, but then again, an occasional new wrinkle can be a good thing, too.
