Simply Mortified

The Beastie Boys have earned some latitude when it comes to their creative wild hairs, but not this much. Simply Mortified is an irritating slab of lounge/dance cheese from Beastie Adam “Ad-rock” Horovitz’s side project with some guy named Amery Smith. Whether they’re manufacturing fruit-drink reggae worthy of a Montego Bay Holiday Inn house band (“Extractions”) or coaxing farts and burps from an array of organs (“Buddy,” “Better Better”), the über-campy results are probably hilarious when you’re stoned. But they really shouldn’t expect people to buy it.
