We don’t give much credit to bands whose only fans are people who review records for a living, but Creeper Lagoon are critical darlings who live up to the hype. Universe is a soaring, ambitious record that recalls the best of bands we’ve never completely swallowed before: It’s Smashing Pumpkins without the pretensions, Travis without the whininess, Oasis without the British people. It’s rock that’s catchy enough to suck you in and daring enough to keep you there.
