Despite his role as axe-slinger for formative alt-rockers Janes Addiction (and briefly, the Red Hot Chili Peppers), Dave Navarro is perhaps best known for living the decadent, self-destructive rock star life to its fullest. So how could someone who seems to live such an interesting life make such a dull album? His solo debut isnt that bad; its just, well, ordinary. Down-and-out rock dramas like Rexall and Sunny Day give Navarro a chance to prove hes got a surprisingly adept voice, but too many songs hereparticularly Everything and Not For Nothingsound like Stone Temple Pilots knock-offs. As a lyricist, he makes a good guitar player: He cant seem to turn his wild rides into anything but clichés (I only feel alone when Im with you). Then again, maybe underneath all the sex, drugs, and leather pants, Navarro just doesnt have a hell of a lot to say.
