If you saw Björk wearing a swan for a dress at the Oscars, you know she enjoys floating around like an eccentric elf in her own make-believe universe. Here she drifts further away from the jazzed-out, clubbed-up vibe of her early work and continues down the theatrical strings-and-things path she blazed on 1997’s Homogenic. Vespertine’s fuzz and buzz isn’t fit for the pop charts or the dance floor, but Björk’s yelp of a voice could make the minutes from an AARP meeting sound mysterious and seductive.
