Has modern rock’s endless parade of faceless pop putzes gotten so awful that the new Bush album doesn’t sound half-bad by comparison? Well, yes, actually. At least they’re getting better at this guitar-rock thing, and unlike every other British outfit, they never try to sound like Radiohead. Furious rockers like “The People That We Love” and “Reasons” are better than we thought they were capable of, and even the two soppy ballads are tolerable. It’s still formulaic, but at least they’ve mastered the formula.
