Rob Zombie’s universe of macabre comic books, hot rods, horror movies, and bombastic heavy metal suggests his development was permanently arrested at age 13. But underneath the trick-or-treat makeup, Rob (or is it Mr. Zombie?) understands he’s a Scooby-Doo villain come to life, so his latest solo record never takes itself too seriously. The Ozzy duet (“Iron Head”) is a nice touch, but mostly this is just more of the snarling guitars, menacing grooves, and ghoulish growling he’s always plied. And like any good cartoon, his demon-rock works even as a rerun.
