Give Jakob Dylan credit. The Wallflowers’ frontman hasn’t bowed to the pressure to follow in his father’s footsteps by reinventing himself with every album. Still, it wouldn’t kill the Wallflowers to vary their routine a tad. It’s not even necessary to describe what Red Letter Days sounds like, since it rehashes the same roots pop they’ve been knocking out for years. While the album has moments—there’s no denying the hooky appeal of “Everything I Need”—you’ll find more surprises in a Three’s Company marathon.
