First, let’s at least give these guys a little credit. While most nü-metal knuckle-draggers are content to regurgitate the same droning power chords, Alien Ant Farm aren’t afraid of pop. Tru follows up their campy cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” with some muscular riffs to go along with the power pop hooks. But genuine nuggets like “Glow” and the Latin groove “Tia Lupe” are buried beneath predictable modern rock sludge. Excavating them hardly seems worth the effort.
