Band Aid vs. USA for Africa

In the spirit of the holiday season, we asked our faithful Facebook fans which charity-raising, awareness-building, musical super-group would win in a good ol’ schoolyard brawl. Would USA for Africa live up to their “We are the children” mantra by displaying scrappy youthful tenacity combined with sweeping Tina Turner roundhouse kicks?

Or would they fall before Band Aid, crying like babies at the mere thought of Phil Collins’ forever-menacing Invisible Touch and Bono’s merciless “In the name of love!” battle-cry?

No, we’ll never really know which side of the pond would win the beatdown, but we were sure that our fans on Facebook would have a few things to say about the musical match-up. And how right we were. From comments such as “Band Aid because Sting would sing them to submission” to “USA for Africa ftw” our loyal FB brothers and sisters had all kinds of opinions about who would dominate. We’re flattered our mom was even considered as one of the frontrunners (“Yo Mama!”).

And while Band Aid racked up the most support by a hair, the heavy metal super-group Hear N Aid was the big write-in. If this fight were being determined by vicious enthusiasm of the commenters (and maybe it is; we haven’t really given it all that much thought), Hear N Aid could take down both groups simultaneously with one hand tied behind their backs. One James Tiberius Strange noted, “Ronnie James Dio, from the grave, kicks Bono and Bob Deldorf’s roody poo candy asses” while Dan Walzer proclaimed “[Band Aid and USA for Africa] would be too busy sucking each other off! Hear N Aid.”

As for the naysayer in the group who asked “How about this question: Who comes up with these stupid, useless questions? Who'd win in a fight...seriously?" We're pretty sure that when you said "stupid, useless" you really meant "awesome, thought-provoking," right? And yes, seriously—we take it very, very, seriously.
