David Lee Roth Is In Space For Your Gaming Pleasure

David Lee Roth has long had one of the most distinctive yelps on Earth. Now, he's got one of the most distinctive yelps in space. Or at least the fake space of video games.

Yes, there is a David Lee Roth video game.

In Assteroidz: Diamond Dave Edition, you become the eponymous lead, blasting your way through the galaxy via a kind of crotch super-gun that surely employs hybrid technology combining advanced design and engineering with the finest in leather tights and buttless chaps. Of course, unfriendly obstacles abound, with various Van Halen logos and, most noteworthy, the goateed, hair-dyed visage of Sammy Hagar, who periodically swoops in to attack, his arrival announced by 5150- and OU812-era, and solo Sammy, jams. Dude, space is dangerous!

It's a totally lo-fi, totally awesome browser game, and yes, it's based on the Atari classic Asteroids, in which the player controls a ship as it floats through space, shooting out, and also avoiding, asteroids and other threatening entities. What the original didn't have, however, were the captivating hoots, howls and screeches of Dave, all of which are taken from the now-legendary David Lee Roth soundboard.

It's a perfect way to kill, well, at least a few minutes, and if you've ever wanted to fire at Sammy Hagar, or crash Diamond Dave into him, in space... now you can.
