Shooter Jennings may never escape the shadow of his papa, Waylon, but really, why should he want to? His second album is long on beery country anthems and Southern rock shitkickers. Maybe he buys into the boozy country outlaw myth a little too hard, and maybe his deep, whiskey-soaked growl sounds a bit too much like his dad’s, but Shooter’s sharp, gritty tunes make just about any shortcoming forgivable.
