Artist:
Billy Bragg and the Blokes
After the Americana of his Mermaid Avenue collaborations with Wilco, proletarian popster Billy Bragg has returned home. His latest explores what it means to be from England, a concept were having difficulty caring less about. Its not the subject matter that sinks the album, thoughits Braggs attempts to augment his sturdy folk rock with a multicultural mishmash. He gets away with reggae, but the stabs at soul and world-beat sound like stuff he found in Peter Gabriels trash.
