A man with a perpetual cloud over his head, Mark Lanegan fronts the Seattle-based rockers Screaming Trees; the rest of his time is spent simmering over haunted gems like this. Filled with desperate folk crawls and country blues, Lanegan goes to the mat with his demons (heartbreak and drugs), refusing to let them bury him as they have many of his friends (including one Kurt Cobain). Make no mistake, this is some bleak shit, but Lanegan’s soulful laments turn this into an emotional wrestling match worth attending.
