God Bless the Go-Go's

While not as necrophiliac as, say, a reunion of the Mamas & the Papas, there’s something unseemly about the Go-Go’s bopping around two decades after the fact. Nothing here approaches the kitsch value of “Our Lips Are Sealed,” but bouncy numbers like “Unforgiven” and “Superslide” pack a guitar crunch the band didn’t possess in its heyday. On God Bless, the Go-Go’s prove they can still spin some sugary power pop—too bad most of this stuff has the emotional weight of cotton candy.
