Rocket From the Crypt
The ninth offering in 10 years from San Diego punk weirdos Rocket From the Crypt has more hooks and snarls than most pirate ships. Before a backdrop of monster riffs, crashing cymbals, mighty horns, and heaps of whoa-oh-oh backup vocals, RFTCs aptly named lead singer Speedo tosses off two-minute hoots and hollers about rats, liars, slaves, and spitting. After a dozen of these rapid-fire blasts, the blitzkrieg bop finally slows down to a stagger on Ghost Shark, a maudlin shout-along that features the boozy piano of legendary Memphis rock guru Jim Dickinson. Its a fitting hangover for one helluva party.
