Haunted

Haunted is a musical roller coaster that makes the Cyclone look like a carousel. Poe, the alternative singer-songwriter who scored a hit in ’96 by coyly telling audiences she wanted to “blow them…away,” is finally back with her second album. And this time she’s ready to blow your mind, with an ambitious disc dipped in Electric Kool-Aid. Haunted is as comfortable using acoustic guitars, like on the lovely “If I Were Here,” as trippy dance beats, as on the stirring “Wild.” Psychedelic in the vein of the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour, Haunted may be the best mind-fuck you’ll get all year—and you don’t have to buy it dinner first.
