Once upon a time, Moby made brash, uncompromising albums that smashed the walls between rock, soul, and dance music. Now? He makes music for swank sushi bars and crappy car commercials. Sure, Hotel is nowhere near as bad as 2002’s über-dull 18—but that ain’t sayin’ much. The songs are serviceable, and while it wouldn’t kill the bald one to lay off the New Order records for a while, Hotel won’t disturb your steaming bowl of miso soup.
