The Real Slim Shady shows he's still got it with the first single off his upcoming album, MMLP2.
13 years after the release of The Marshall Mathers firmly established Eminem as the biggest force in popular music (remember this?), the Detroit rapper returns with a sequel, dubbed (wait for it) MMLP2. That's The Marshall Mathers LP 2, in case you're not good with puzzles. Last night Em debuted "Berzerk," the first single of the album, which is produced by Rick Rubin and Dr. Dre, and is due out November 5. As was the case with previous first singles such as "My Name Is" off of The Slim Shady LP and "The Real Slim Shady" off of The Marshall Mathers LP, "Berzerk" is an aggressive, bizarro freak-out full of pop culture references, deft wordplay, and hilarious insults. (Poor Khloe Kardashian; way to hit a gal while she's down.) The song is also a throwback to old-school hip-hop, name-checking Public Enemy, MC Ren, Birdman, Kendrick Lamar, and Kid Rock, and evoking the Beastie Boys at their brattiest. No doubt about it: Shady's back, tell a friend.
