A New Day at Midnight

Release Date:

David Gray
Star Rating:
★★★
Resistance is futile. You may have steeled yourself against “Babylon,” the 2000 hit that rescued David Gray from a lifetime of crooning in coffeehouses, but his unapologetically moody sixth album, A New Day at Midnight, will suck you in. We know: His formula of slipping smooth beats under his lilting folk-pop is predictable, but it doesn’t matter. Whether it’s the mournful trumpet that opens “Freedom” or just his cosmically bummed-out voice, one way or another Gray is determined to win you over.
