At San Quentin

Beyond all of the free food and the colorful uniforms, there’s precious little to recommend prison. In 1969, though, San Quentin hosted one heck of a show. Originally released that year, At San Quentin has now been reissued with nine previously unheard tracks, including “Fulsom Prison Blues” (a favorite with the captive audience). More laid-back than you’d expect (Cash jokes about his guitar-case dope stash), The Man In Black isn’t starting any riots here, just giving some 400-pound ax murderers a chance to unwind.
