Scar

Despite his accomplished catalog, singer-songwriter Joe Henry is perhaps best known as Madonna’s sister’s husband. Scar completes his transition from the fringes of country, rock, and funk into total weirdness. With help from jazz outlaw Ornette Coleman, Henry crafts tragic ditties on par with Tom Waits and Mark Eitzel. Henry’s 10-act drama, populated by characters like late ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and ailing comic Richard Pryor, is impenetrable at times but often groovy…and did we mention he’s Madonna’s brother-in-law?
