Cherry Poppin Daddies
The Daddies were to blame for Zoot Suit Riot, the irritating theme song for the mercifully brief swing revival of the late 90s. It turns out, though, theyre not really retro hipsters; theyre schizophrenic freaks. Soul Caddy offers some lingering swing, but its filled out with stabs at guitar-driven punk, 50s-style soul, bouncy ska-pop, Fishbone-style funk, and Hootie-happy roots-rock. In the end, the album is a lot like a musical version of Sanford and Son: tons of junk that doesnt really work, and less amusing on repeated listenings.
