Spend the Night

Four girls, all easy on the eyes, all answering to the name Donna, playing bratty tunes about sex, drugs, and rock’n’roll. Sounds like a gimmick? Well, yeah, it is—but who cares when it’s this much fun? The Donnas’ fifth album slicks up the sloppy punk of their early outings, making them sound as much like a girl-power Kiss as a female Ramones. The songs are nothing if not repetitive, but when they’re making demands like “Take Me to the Backseat” and “Take It Off,” we don’t mind hearing them over and over again.
