When people hate on Southern rap, this is what they’re talking about. Atlanta’s Pastor Troy follows Lil Jon’s crunk blueprint to the letter: crushing beats, ominous synths, and track after pulverizing track that are either about kicking somebody’s head in or feel like they should be. It’ll inevitably sound great in a loud, crowded club where nobody’s exactly listening for nuance, but when chilling at home, Stay Tru’s more useful as a coaster for your cocktail.
