The End of All Things to Come

Release Date:
Tuesday, November 19, 2002
Artist:
Mudvayne
Star Rating:
★★★
Mudvayne call their sound “math-metal,” and, fittingly, it can be about as much fun as calculus. Every once in a while, these masked marauders break out the begrudging melody, but the emphasis here is clearly on violent guitars, angry beats, and bloodcurdling screams. The songs generally vacillate between aggro-industrial grinding and nü-metal whining, though on stomps like “Not Falling,” Mudvayne echo prog-metal masterminds Tool, proving it’s sometimes possible to look like a clown without totally sounding like one.
