The Massacre

Release Date:
03/03/2005
Artist:
50 Cent
Star Rating:
★★★★
So what if 50 Cent’s rhymes are about as complicated as an "I Can Read" book, and his rambling flow reminds you of Mushmouth. (You try rapping after you get shot in the face.) As The Massacre proves, 50’s got game, even when he’s not rolling with Dr. Dre and Eminem. On the follow-up to the smash Get Rich or Die Tryin’, 50 enlists a battalion of new producers, unleashing an arsenal of tracks that runs through the entire modern hip-hop canon, from club bangers (like the first single, “Candy Shop,” and the acerbic “Piggybank”), to retro R&B jams (the Dre-produced “Rider Music”), to the street anthems and grimy crime tales you’ve come to expect. Out of Em's and Dre’s shadow, 50 Cent more than holds his own. Don’t agree? Well, you tell 50 he sucks.
