Sadly, a song as ambiguous and careening as the Breeders surprise 1993 hit Cannonball would never make it onto what passes for radio these days. But as this long-awaited reunion between battlin sisters Kim and Kelley Deal proves, their guitar pop is as appealing today as it ever was. Although the band has shed half of its original members, the endearingly off-kilter sensibility remains, shining through in tunes like the relentless Son of Three and the Pixies-esque hoedown Full on Idle. Like the lady said: The Breeders are still big; its radio that got small.
