Despite their perky moniker and arty rep, the Apples in Stereo are a surprisingly rockin outfit. Beneath their fuzzed-out recording style, head Apple Rob Schneider (not the ferretlike SNL alum) and company boast muscular chops thatve helped make retro-rockers like the Hives all the rage. Churning out three-minute nuggets of 60s-style punk (like the Carpenters-on-crank melodies of Please and the Beach Boys homage Shes Telling Lies), Velocity of Sound really moves.
