Everyone loves the Ramones—average schlubs who wrote two-minute punk songs and changed rock forever. Here, a parade of platinum rockers pay homage with covers that are rarely less than OK but only seldom more. The good stuff? U2’s lighthearted “Beat on the Brat” and Eddie Vedder’s fiery “I Believe in Miracles,” with Seattle thrashers Zeke. The bad? Metallica’s unimaginative “53rd & 3rd” and Pete Yorn’s limp “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend.” The mediocre? Unfortunately, everything else.
