Youth and Young Manhood

Everyone says these guys are the South’s answer to the Strokes, but that’s bullshit—they’re much better than that. The brothers Followill (Caleb, Jared, and Nathan) spent their formative years cooped up with their traveling preacher father; Youth and Young Manhood is the sound of the boys unleashed (along with their guitarist-cousin Matthew). It crackles with pent-up energy, swiping guitar lines from the Allmans, hooks from Tom Petty, and a brash swagger from Lou Reed. Maybe the South will rise again. Nah, probably not.
