To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its AMG performance brand, Mercedes-Benz has enlisted the help of directors Joel and Ethan Coen and actor Peter Fonda to send up Easy Rider in a commercial for Super Bowl LI.

Set to the obligatory strains of Steppenwolf’s Born To Be Wild, the spot sees the familiar milieu of an Easy Rider-worshiping biker bar, whose patrons get a surprise when Peter Fonda rolls up.

Fonda’s mount is the firebreathing Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster rather than his Captain America chopper from the movie. We’re left to decide for ourselves which is really more badass.

“The goal with the spot was to pay homage to the history that brought us to this point with something iconic but authentic that would resonate with people who have a passion for open air driving, who live for the call of the road and who share a little of that rebellion from the norm,” explained Drew Slaven, vice president of marketing for Mercedes-Benz USA.

What do you think: Was the Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster truly born to be wild?
