This Extremely Rare Classic Ferrari Is Poised to Top $10 Million at Auction

It’s one of only 72 ever built.

Classic car auctions routinely reach stratospheric heights these days, but the sky-high prices are justified when true classics are under the hammer. 

That is the case with this 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Tour de France, which is one of only 72 such cars ever built by the Scuderia.

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive classic car sold at auction is also a Ferrari, a 1962/63 250 GTO that sold in 2014 for $38 million, followed by a 1957 335S Spider race car that brought $36 million in 2016. 

So, with a forecast high price of “only” $11 million, this scarlet ’57 looks like a potential bargain. This example is the 15th of 17 of the cars built with the 1957 body style, featuring three side louvers and covered headlights.

More than just a sports car, this Ferrari also competed successfully on the track, scoring 11 wins and finishing second 2nd overall at the Pau 3-Hour race in April 1958 and at the Grand Prix of Spa-Francorchamps in May 1958.

Unlike many former race cars, this 250 GT is nearly all original, following a meticulous restoration completed in the ’90s that documented the preservation of most of the car’s original parts.
