The Greatest Family Sedan on the Planet

The 2014 Maserati Quattroporte has four doors, eight cylinders, and 523 horsepower. We like that kind of math.

Italian is a wonderful language. Take the word "Quattroporte," the model name of the newest Maserati. Sounds sexy, powerful, and even musical, right? Well, it just means "four doors." Which isn't to say that the car itself doesn't live up to all those dramatic adjectives, and more. Last night, we visited the Maserati of Manhattan showroom to meet the 2014 Quattroporte, Maserati's newest four-door, five-passenger beast. We could not have been more pleased to make its acquaintance. Besides being, as Derek Zoolander would put it, "really really ridiculously good-looking," it's what we found under the sedan's hood—a twin-turbo V8 with 523 horsepower that brings it to a top speed of 191mph—that really made us fall in amore. Way back in 1963, Maserati debuted the original Quattroporte, which pretty much defined the concept of the "luxury sports sedan." Seems to us that, for 2014, they've perfected it.

Engine: Twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8
Transmission: 8-speed automatic
Horsepower: 523
0-60: 4.6 seconds
Top speed: 191 mph
