Hey Ryan, Thank you for this blog (and constantly updating it. It's making it a good offseason so far). You and Brodeur made the point about proportional sizing. I'm not a goalie, so I'm sortof out of the water on this one, but wouldn't that give an unfair advantage to someone whose size is larger? You're stats are 160 at 6'2, but Olie Kolzig is 6'3 at 224, and Nabakov is 200 at 6'0. Wouldn't Olie's pads be larger proportionately, and therefore more surface space to block a goal? Therefore he'd have an unfair advantage. It could just be my ignorance, but it doesn't sound like it would work very well. Am i missing something? Anyway, I hope you have a really nice and relaxing summer.

Factor in height and other dimensions for limits on sizing.
Should we expect a rash of suddenly jacked up or totally emactiated goalies come next season? haha.

"I am not going to sit on here and pretend like guys don’t push the limits of the rules or that I myself will not try to get the last inch out of my pads and gloves… it would be foolish to say that because you, my audience, are not stupid."
Actually Ryan if you could hear some of the talk radio garbage locally right now, AKA "We should have kept Marty over Ryan", you might change your "people aren't stupid" stance!
Seriously, though, really enjoying your blog and hoping you sign a long-term extension this offseason. Some fans here in Buffalo really appreciate the fact that you got us to two conference championships in your first three seasons!
Question: Do you think USA has a good chance of winning the gold in the World Championships? I'm really looking forward to seeing Pommers and Staffy play with our future superstar, Nathan Gerbe.

Heard you on the stretch show yesterday, great job man. Really nice to finally hear some "hockey talk" on sirius. Best of luck with the commitee, and the upcoming season.
Peace

I think Marty Brodeur's idea regarding the goalie equipment pretty much nails it in my opinion. It's the fairest way to go. Why has the new NHL reverted back to the old NHL? Don't you think enforcing the obstructions and interferences would make a big difference in getting the game back on track? I miss the beautiful pass plays and we have to settle for garbage goals instead.

I saw you on The Hockey Show talking about goalie equipment and The Steadfast Foundation. I attended the fashion show in February and I had the best time. Everything was so well organized and it was just a lot of fun. You were so nice to everyone, very genuine. You sure know how to throw a party, I look forward to next years. Anyways, I look forward to what you and the rest of the guys on the Committe come up with!

Ryan, this blog is pure gold. You've got a real knack for blogging. I hope you find another place to write once this Maxim gig is over.

Hi Ryan, first off I live in Buffalo and I'm a huge fan of yours, honestly your probably one of the best goalies in the league today and thank you for being in Buffalo as long as you have. My question though is will all the time in summer not being spent on hockey, will you be holding any more event things for the Steadfast foundation? And my hockey question is, Even after a ref has blown a call and its shown on the replay that the ref is wrong should the call be changed, being that were in playoff time and i see refs blow calls all the time and one call can keep you from advancing to the next round?

Hi Ryan. What do you think of the decision to pull Carey Price? If they keep him out what does that do to him mentally looking toward next season?

Hey Ryan, I like where Marty is coming from with the proportional sizing thing. I think that will work out very nicely if it is implemented. I also wanted to ask what you think about Philadelphia's success over Montreal. So far they have kept the Canadiens in check. What do you attribute that to? Is it exciting to see a fellow teammate (Marty) do well in the playoffs? Obviously Fleury and the Penguins are having two amazing series' having yet to lose a game.

Was the "scary orchestra music" reference a nod to your peeps in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra? We can't get enough of you guys over at the BPO!

We're HUGE fans in our home of yours... even my five year old daughter has a poster of you in full gear in her room. We HUGE fans of Buffalo Sabres and have been for years. We are keeping our fingers crossed that you re-sign with the team. We have been watching you play since you started with the Amerks. We're from the Syracuse area, and the Crunch fans would heckle you terrible. We even had peanuts thrown at us cheering for you. My question for you is how do you concentrate on your game when you have to listen to that noise?

Hey Ryan,
Proportional sizing is an interesting idea, but won't it lead to a lot of measuring and checking the officials have to do? Not just of the pads, but of the players? What if you lose or gain weight over the course of the season?
Just for fun, perfect the inflatible pad. Grows larger or smaller depending on proximity of offense or refs. ;-)
