HowardFogle.jpgYou're at a Subway on Market Street in downtown Philly, this has got to be marketing's ultimate fantasy for their man to win it all. So what's the message from a World Series champ?
First and foremost, we at Team Subway are just trying to promote healthier eating and a more active lifestyle. I think Jared Fogle is kind of a hot commodity right now because he shot commercials with Tony Parker, Kimmie Meissner, and Michael Strahan, and they all seem to have won a championship. I guess he's kind of the missing link.

After the champagne and interviews, what's the first thing you did when the dust settled on Wednesday night?
I just tried to take it all in. It hasn't even really set in yet. We celebrated a little bit, had a team gathering. But today we have our parade, so hopefully that will help it settle in a bit more.

Have you noticed anything different since winning?
Things aren't too much different right now. We had a day off, and today we have the parade and I think it's going to sink in a little more with the parade. So I'm just excited and anxious for that.

I'm sure it's a lot of interviews, have you grown tired of answering the same question over and over?
I don't think you can really get tired of answering questions at all when you've just won the World Series.

Touché. Then allow me to ask a cliché championship question: When did it really strike you that you were a champion?
That moment of reality set in when they had that runner on second base, tying run in scoring position, with Erik Hinske up. And Hinkse had an [at bat] in game four where he came up and hit a home run, so they had the right guy up in the right situation. I think when Brad Lidge got two strikes on him, I thought to myself, "We are one strike away from winning this world series." He threw the next pitch, struck him out, and that was that.

Then to the fun part. Can it get dangerous in those celebratory man piles?
You don't want to be the guy at the bottom of the pile. You want to try and be the guy on the top, maybe the middle. But not the guy on the bottom.

And where were you?
I was that guy on the bottom. Well, third from the bottom.

Ouch. Were you guys frustrated with the way that last game panned out? First playing so long in that bad weather, then have to wait two days before finishing?
Obviously you couldn't control the weather conditions, and major league baseball did what they felt they needed to do as far as extending the game. The weather the next day wasn't going to be promising, so they had to move it to the next day. We just had to stay mentally prepared.

What do you do in the clubhouse during a delay like that? A little MLB '08 action?
Naw, you just hang out, relax. Wait to find out what's going to happen.

So you used to play the trombone, will see you in action at all today? It is a parade, after all.
There will probably be trombones, but I will not be playing one.

So what's on deck after the festivities? You going to Disney World?
[Laughs] After this, I'm just relaxing. Take a little R&R, take a vacation, then just start getting ready for '09.
