People who don't count themselves among the hockey faithful should know this - the league is pretty old-fashioned in its thinking. The word "tradition" is held sacred, and the best players are heralded not only for their on-ice accomplishments but also for the sportsmanship and reserve.
In other words, they tend to love dull, nice guys.
Which is why Washington Capital's superstar Alexander Ovechkin is a breath of fresh air for some, and a Russian answer to Terrell Owens for others. You see, Ovechkin doesn't just nod his head and make a bee-line for the bench after scoring goals. He fucking celebrates.
We see no harm in this whatsoever, which is why we applaud A-O for not only notching goal No. 50 last night in a win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, but for celebrating the goal with a little semi-improvised* Jimi Hendrix tribute.
