Eleven-year
NHL veteran Kevin Weekes posted a .920 save percentage overall this
season with
the New Jersey Devils. He marked his 100th career NHL regular season
victory
after 25 saves over the New York Islanders on November 21, 2008. Weekes
is only
the seventh player to see action with the Devils, New York Rangers and
New York
Islanders. In 2002, he helped lead the Carolina Hurricanes to the
Stanley Cup
Final with team record two shutouts in the Playoffs, and also recorded
the
highest save percentage in the Playoffs in Hurricanes history.
In addition to his accomplishments on the ice, Weekes is also committed
to
several charitable youth initiatives around the
globe. In 2003, Weekes created
the annual Kevin Weekes Celebrity Charity Golf Classic, now hosted each
July in
his parent’s native land of Barbados. In 2009, the event will raise
proceeds
for two unique initiatives: Sky’s The Limit, a Toronto based
organization that
provides computers to benefit students in under-resourced communities
by
providing them with refurbished computers in their homes; and The
Phoenix
Academy of Barbados, a community based institution with a focus on the
total
development of boys aged 8-17, with academic, sports and musical
components.
