Maybe Jeremy Mayfield was right; team owner Ray Evernham wasn't spending enough time with his race teams. Evernham didn't spend any time with Mayfield when he decided to dump the struggling veteran from the 19 car in favor of Bill Elliot for this week's race at Watkins Glen. According to NASCAR.com, Mayfield didn't know he was fired until he was contacted by the reporter from NASCAR.com. Whenever I get fired, my boss usually has the courtesy to tell me¿or at least request that security be gentle when they toss me out on my ass.
