Sports for Life: Air Racing

"Navigating an obstacle course in the air" may sound more like a video-game pursuit than one that exists in the non-virtual world, but the growing popularity of air racing among both participants and fans speaks volumes about our need for speed. Sure, the bar to entry is rather high (as we understand it, planes cost money), but even the gravity-constrained can't help but be amazed by the spectacle of the aforementioned ninja-sleek turboplanes bounding over, under and around the "air gates" (think gargantuan traffic pylons). Alas, the highest-profile organized air racing circuit, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship, called off its 2011 season in order to focus on safety, or something. Wimps.
