Your Olympic tennis hangover is about to be cured with a little hair of the dog, courtesy of the U.S. Open. More rackets, more skimpy outfits, and more global hotties await…
Elena Dementieva- Country: Russia
2007 U.S Open Result: Lost in the 3rd Round
Elena heads into the U.S. Open riding high after scoring a gold medal in women's singles at the Olympics. The fiery Russian won her first international competition at age 13—the French tournament Les Petits As. Insert your own joke here, scumbag.
Dominika Cibulkova- Country: Slovakia
2007 U.S Open Result: Lost in the 2nd Round
Despite being ranked 30th going into the 2008 Wimbeldon tournament, Dominika lost to unranked wild card Zheng Jie of China. Luckily, it hasn't diminished her desire to kick ass at the U.S. Open (or our desire to watch her).
Maria Sharapova-
2007 U.S. Open Result: Lost in 3rd Round
It's a testament to Sharapova's indomitable hotness that even those irritating camera commercials she does with that grating Pomeranian do nothing to tarnish our opinion of her.
Gisela Dulko- Country: Argentina
2007 U.S Open Result: Lost in 1st Round
Gisela is known more for her doubles work than singles (she paired with Ashley Harkleroad to win Wimbledon in 2001), and she's also know as a bit of a tennis world heartbreaker: She has been linked with Spanish court stars Fernando Verdasco and Tommy Robredo, and Chilean Fernando González.
Sorana Cirstea- Country: Romania
2007 U.S Open Result: Didn't play
Coming out of nowhere in 2007, this plucky Romanian is set to play spoiler to some of the bigger names at this year's Open. Barring that, she'll terrify them all with tales of her home country. Bwahahahahahaha!
Alona Bondarenko- Country: Ukraine
2007 U.S Open Result: Lost in 3rd Round
Alongside her equally easy-on-the-eyes sister, Kateryna, Alona won the 2008 Australian Open women's doubles tourney. Hot sisters... Is there anything they can't do?
Nicole Vaidisova-
2007 U.S. Open Result: Lost in third round
After calling the women players at Wimbledon "sexpots," former ATP tour player Justin Gimelstob described Nicole as, "a well-developed young lady... And I'm not talking about her backhand." Same here.
Daniela Hantuchova- Country: Slovakia
2007 U.S. Open Result: Lost in 1st Round
Lovely Slovakian Daniela is rumored to speak six languages, which should help her getting around Flushing, Queens. She was also trained as a classical pianist, which does her no good at all.
Ana Ivanovic- Country: Serbia
2007 U.S. Open Result: Lost in 4th Round
Ana is the top-seeded player heading into the U.S. Open, which means all eyes will be on her. Of course, our eyes were always on her, but we suspect for different reasons than the tennis establishment.
Maria Kirilenko-
2007 U.S. Open Result: Lost in 3rd Round
No relation to the NBA's Andrei Kirilenko. The lovely from Russia is a slam dunk on and off the court, winning three WTA Tour titles in 2008 and serving as the face of Adidas' tennis shoe line.
BONUS: Anna Kournikova-
Check out Anna's exclusive photos and video.
Ashley Harkleroad- Country: USA
2007 U.S. Open Result: Lost in 1st round
Ashley should be well rested after skipping out on the Olympics, and she's looking to stick around the Open longer than she did the French Open (ousted in the first round by Serena Williams) and Wimbledon (ousted, again, in the first round, this time by Amelie Mauresmo).
