THE CAR: Ferrari GTB Fiorano HGTE

THE LOWDOWN: Ferrari's hypercar tightens up. Rich dudes' wallets loosen up.

FerrariBack1.jpgWHY WE'RE STOKED: Any time there's an a opportunity to linger for a minute over the shrink-wrapped seductiveness of a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, we'll take it. So with the unveiling of a sharper, tighter version of its three-year-old supercar at the Geneva Motor show, the prancing horse has given us another excuse to stare at this car again. And we're taking it.

Called the "Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione" package, this special edition 599 GTB gets relatively minor performance upgrades: its tires are stickier, its springs are stiffer, its shock absorbers are recalibrated, and the ride height has been lowered to improve handling. The exhaust note of the front-mid mounted 6-liter V12 engine has also been retuned, and the manual-automatic F1 gearbox shifts a bit faster (Thank Jesus. The 60-millisecond shift times of the "normal" 599 must seem epic.). Designers likewise made small changes to the car's look—the rear diffuser is matte black; the interior gets more Alcantara and carbon fiber trim. Subtle stuff, but just think: these upgrades could shed .002 seconds off your daily commute. Stuff adds up, you know!

BUYING IT: An onsale date hasn't been announced. Expect the HGTE edition to add at least $30 grand to the Ferrari GTB Fiorano's $300,000+ pricetag.
