Catching Up With…The Cloned Raelian Baby Frenchman Claude Vorilhon, who goes by the name Rael, teaches his followers that aliens created life on earth through genetic engineering. Since he is a direct descendant of said extraterrestrials, he decided to extend their legacy, and in December 2002, one of Vorilhon’s followers announced the creation of the world’s first cloned baby. Stuff tracked her down at the very laboratory in which she was created.
STUFF: You’re 19 months old? CLONED BABY: That’s what they tell me.
You look pretty, um, adult. I know. How strange is that? Turns out, one of the side effects of cloning is that I age at this, like, crazy-fast rate.
That is—oh, my God, what just fell out of your mouth? A tooth. Could accelerated aging be any more annoying?
Is that the only side effect? Well, I do tend to get headaches. And I’ve noticed a few gray hairs. Oh, and I have, like, 12 nipples.
Good god! I know, right? It’s totally weird. Think you could get me on that Extreme Makeover show?
I’ll see what I can do. Oh, is that your puppy? Yes! Say hello to the nice man, Mr. Fluffer Bumpers.
He’s adora—hey, what are you doing to him? Sucking out his fluids.
You feed on puppy blood? I know. Could I be any more of a cloned half-human–half-reptilian alien offspring?
