Chris Brown Has Been Banned From Australia

The singer’s deplorable history of violence has caught up with him down under.

Chris Brown will most likely have to cancel his upcoming tour in Australia this December.

Australia’s immigration department issued a “notice of intention to consider refusal” to his visa, based on a lengthy, and growing, history of domestic (and non-domestic) abuse charges, and on Friday that intent turned into action when Brown was issued a formal notice that his application had been denied. He has 28 days to appeal, but why bother? The message has been made very clear that Brown isn’t wanted

“People need to understand, if you are going to commit domestic violence and you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you, ‘You cannot come in because you are not of the character that we expect in Australia,'” says Minister for Women Michaelia Cash.

In 2009 Brown plead guilty to attacking Rihanna, his girlfriend at the time, and since then he’s toured Australia twice. But it’s likely that Australia can no longer overlook the string of charges brought against Brown. Hitting Rihanna in the face with a cell phone apparently wasn’t enough for Brown: in 2013 he was jailed on a felony assault charge following an incident where a man tried to jump in on a photo Brown was talking with a female fan. Brown reacted violently proclaiming, “I’m not down with that gay shit,” (whatever the hell that means) and then repeatedly punched the man. Most recently, in September of this year, Brown was named in an investigation surrounding a woman claiming to have been forcibly thrown off the singer’s tour bus.

On the bright side, Rihanna seems to be free in the month of December, maybe she could take Brown’s place during the scheduled dates? Her music is 110% better anyway.
