Birthday: May 1, 1976
Hometown: Rome, Italy

Where You've Seen Her:
She's a huge superstar in Italy with tons of TV and movie roles on her résumé, and Violante was even nominated in the Best Actress category in her homeland's Oscars equivalent. (It's no surprise her acting chops have gotten her far—the genes run in the family. Violante's mom was in The Godfather.) In addition to appearing in films like Fade to Black, Pinocchio and the TV mini-series War and Peace, Violante also has an impressive set of pipes as her album, Don't Be Shy, demonstrated. As the inspiration for our Hottest Italian Actresses gallery, we can't wait to see her play George Clooney's love interest (and a prostitute, at that!) in The American. It doesn't matter what language she speaks; Violante proves sexiness is the universal language.

What a Pro: "[My sex scene with George Clooney] had to look real; it is the turning point for the two characters. I can tell you that watching it, I don't feel as calm as I did when I was on set filming it. Just watching it is a little like … wow." —People
